SUMMER. IS. HERE.

As all three of us are now on break for summer (?!), we thought it would be a lovely idea to show you a few reasons why we are so excited for the season to begin!

Kat:
Instead of New Year's resolutions, (which I honestly think are so socially constructed that they are bound to not be fulfilled, as silly as that sounds) I decided I would make summer resolutions! Mainly because I think I'll now actually have time to fulfill them...

They are the following:
1) Keep up on this blog
2) Work-out/be active outside for three hours a week
3) Learn my part of The First Lady for the Act II of the Magic Flute!

That's my starting point, but I'm bound to add to it.

So, as for my things I'm excited for...

Walking my dog! He's a great walk companion, and its a wonderful way to enjoy the sun/Gasworks Park/hiking.

High-waisted bikinis! They are so flattering to so many different body types, not to mention a great retro throwback. This particular one is from Anthropologie.

No caption necessary.

Ariel:
So happy to be home in the California sunshine!!  After a severe case of S.A.D. from the beautiful (yet undeniably rainy) Pacific Northwest, I am so excited for summer to be here.  It's been in the 70s the whole time I've been home so far, and I'm loving every minute of it.  Some things I'm especially excited for are...

This bicycle that my boyfriend gave me.  It folds up, so I can take it anywhere!  And I'm beyond excited to be able to cruise around with him finally.

As far as fashion goes, I love summer for the shoes.  Right now, I'm on a hunt for beautiful nude wedges or sandals like these from Seychelles.  They're called "Purr".  Mm, purrrrrrr indeed!

As far as I'm concerned, trees exist to be climbed and people exist to be loved.  I will be doing both this summer and always.  :)

Rhiannon:
Although I am settling into summer quite nicely I still have the occasional rush of anxiety that generally accompanies the school year :) Sitka has treated me to a few sunny, warm days, which I took advantage of by gardening in the backyard. A trip to the nursery resulted in 13 new plants for our hillside garden, as well as the beginnings of what will be our strawberry patch.

I have also been working away at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, getting ready for the arrival of faculty, staff, counselors and students.

Here are a few things that I am looking forward to this summer:
Days like this spent in the warm Alaskan sun

SFAC

Being reunited with my whole family for my brother's wedding

Getting to travel to China with some of my very favorite people!

Welcome to the Show!

Welcome to the Show!

We are the three singing meows. Let us start by introducing ourselves:

Ariel
Hello!  I'm Ariel.  I love most things in the world, including (but definitely not limited to) traveling, laughter, dancing, good food and wine, and being in the company of amazing people.  I also love shoes.  A lot.  Probably too much.  I really enjoy fashion, but I have a particular passion for fair trade clothes (and fair trade everything else too).  I also love shopping vintage and second-hand and I've had a lot of great finds in the past few years, so I'll be blogging a lot about my favorite vintage boutiques!  Stay tuned.  :)

Kat
My name is Kat. I enjoy a lot of things, but among them are the aforementioned opera, cats and fashion, along with dogs (/pretty much all animals), skiing/being outside, pretending I know how to cook and definitely knowing how to eat, wine, traveling, lazing around, and spending time with others. I have a hard time describing my personal style, because it can really vary, but I would say its eclectic, retro, and colorful. I always feel accomplished when I manage to mix semi- matching patterns or textures. I tend to keep an eye on trends, so I'll probably spend some time posting about various trend I may or may not like.

Rhiannon
I'm Rhiannon :) I enjoy opera, hair/make-up, fashion, cats, cooking/baking and dinosaurs (among many other things). I would describe my personal style as a blend of classic feminine and casual chic, though it is ever-evolving. I'm a vegan, albeit a fairly new one (going on five months), so expect some posts about my forays into the vegan lifestyle (for example: today I had pizza with vegan cheese...scary stuff!)

Collectively, we decided to start this blog as an outlet for our different interests. Our posts will cover such diverse topics as opera, fair trade fashion, trends, make-up, hair and travel. We also wanted a project that would help us feel connected over the summer, when we all travel to different parts of the country. Enjoy!

For our first post...

Here is a picture that we think summarizes our personal style

Ariel
I had an impossible time trying to find a photo.  But!  Never fear, I prevailed and ended up finding something rather perfect.  I consider my style to be romantic without being over the top and I have a love for very fancy things in very simple places, like the flounce of this skirt at the sea for instance.

Kat
Finding a look I thought really described my style was very much difficult, but here is what I came up with. In this look, I really like the mix of colors and patterns, without overdoing it. I really like the way the wedge streamlines the slouchy look of the pants and the shirt. This look manages to combine elements of retro with trendy to create something very unique.

I'm a sucker for this blazer because of the colorful print and cut. Also, I recently bought a pair of pleated capri trousers (that are somewhat like this) that I really enjoy, because they really allow me to play with many different silhouettes and looks.

Rhiannon
This proved to be a much more difficult task than I first expected. I have found that my personal style tends to be a rapidly evolving thing (as is the case for most people, I think). So, for my picture I decided to choose a photograph of someone who is currently influencing my personal style:
I'm in the process of growing out a pixie cut. My most recent cut turned out very Elizabeth Taylor-esque, so I have been playing that up with red lipstick and minimal eye make-up. The old-time-movie-star look is something that always appeals to me, but I have been embracing it more whole-heartedly as of late.
